Although premature ejaculation is very common, it is still very unpleasant for everyone involved. If you are lasting less than a few minutes and are also experiencing emotional distress from your symptoms you may be suffering from PE. The good news is that it is treatable in most cases.
There are two types of premature ejaculation:
Ejaculation involves emissions controlled by the hypogastric nerves at T12 and L1 and expulsion involving the pudendal nerves at s1 to s3. Dopamine, serotonin, and prolactin all have a role to play in the process of controlling your ejaculation time.
Biological causes of premature ejaculation can include abnormal hormone or neurotransmitter levels, inherited traits, unusual reflex activity, and certain thyroid problems. Anxiety and relationship problems also contribute to the dissatisfaction you will experience during sex.
In most cases, premature ejaculation is treatable with a multidisciplinary response. The treatment for PE is not instant and requires a 12-month commitment to treatment in order to achieve lasting results. The gold standard of lasting treatment may include oral treatment, regular pharmacological reviews, psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, and regular adjustments.
Take the time to determine if your symptoms are problematic enough for you to address. Ejaculating prematurely once in a while is usually no cause for concern, however, if the issues are persistent and are causing you mental anguish you should speak to a sexual health doctor.
A confidential evaluation of your symptoms will be conducted over the phone to determine if you are medically suitable for premature ejaculation treatment.
